  • Continued grading of the work site and foundation installation

  • Utility work within the site on both Newbury Street and Boylston Street

  • On the Boylston Street side of the rail tracks, initial prep work for foundations

WORK HOURS & NIGHT WORK

Typical work hours on-site will be Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for the majority of the work, but starting this week, some nighttime work will be required in the highway and along the railway based on safety and logistical constraints. This work includes:

  • Demolition of the barrier in the highway median: this week and next week, on double shifts ranging from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.. This minimizes the duration of the work, and the contractor is taking steps to mitigate noise from demolition by doing as much high-impact work during daytime hours as possible.

  • Loading and unloading of the work zone: will occur at night after demolition. Noise levels should not be significantly louder than existing highway traffic for this activity.

  • Installation of a separation wall along the railroad tracks: will start overnight on Monday evening 9/28 and take about three weeks to complete. Because this work has impacts on railway operations, it is required to be performed at night. This is a relatively quiet boring operation and does not require impact hammering.

Workhours are coordinated with MassDOT and with MBTA and are subject to change based on weather. Check back here every two weeks for the latest information.

MBTA BUS STOP RELOCATION

As of 9/12, the MBTA bus stop at Mass Ave @ Newbury Street (Hynes Convention Center) has been moved to a temporary bus stop one block south at the corner of Mass Ave and Boylston Street. The new shelter and temporary sidewalk are installed, and MBTA signage will direct passengers to the temporary relocated stop throughout construction.

COMPLETED WORK

Over the last two weeks, work in the highway continued including installing temporary electric utilities and starting demolition of the median. On site, initial construction activities continued including site grading, soil testing and excavation, early foundation work, and installing utility connections to the site from Boylston and Newbury Streets.
