This coming Sunday 1/10, the I-90 on-ramp at Newbury Street / Mass Ave will be shut down for key utility work during the day.
Timing: Sunday 1/10, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Purpose: To complete installation of fiber optic cable and access a manhole cover within the ramp area, ensuring a safe workzone for utility crews. This operation is part of the project’s overall simplification of the Newbury Street / Mass. Ave intersection and access to the on-ramp, while improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists crossing the intersection.
Detour: As with previous closures, a signed detour will be posted for drivers to access the Turnpike westbound by the Arlington Street / Marginal Road on-ramp in the Back Bay, via Commonwealth Avenue and Arlington Street (as shown below).
