We will start installing the deck platform structure over the railtracks on weekends starting 11/12. Work will resume after Thanksgiving (starting on 12/3) and continue on weekends through 12/19.
Rail Service Changes: The MBTA will use weekend shutdowns of the Worcester Line Commuter Rail and Amtrak service to ensure the safety of riders during this work. Replacement bus service will be in operation from South Station & Back Bay to Boston Landing, with no service to Lansdowne Station. On the weekend of 11/19 only, Amtrak service on the #448 and #449 from Chicago will not be interrupted.
Timing: Friday nights at midnight through 5:00 a.m. Monday mornings. Because the work consists of installing large concrete planks over the railroad, the installation can only happen on weekends when the railroad is safely taken out of service.
Dates: Weekends of 11/12, 12/3, 12/10, and 12/17. No work on Thanksgiving weekend or weekend of 11/19.
Service Alerts: We will send reminders as part of weekly look-aheads throughout the work. For Commuter Rail information, follow MBTA Service Alerts at @MBTA_CR on Twitter, mbta.com, and the Transit App.
Description of Work and Local Impacts: We will be installing precast concrete bridge planks over the rail tracks between foundation walls in the highway median and on the Boylston Street site. The deck consists of premanufactured components that are built off-site and then lowered into place. The work is not expected to be loud compared to background highway noise and we will work to manage and minimize noise as much as we can.
Turnpike travel impacts will be limited to nightly lane closures in coordination with MassDOT.
