The next two weekends, the I-90 on-ramp at Newbury Street / Mass Ave will be shut down overnight Friday, reopening by 5am on Monday morning. Any changes to these expected closures will be communicated via email.
Timing: Friday 12/11 at 11:00 p.m. through Monday 12/14 by 5:00 a.m. and Friday 12/18 at 11:00 p.m. through Monday 12/21 by 5:00 a.m.
Purpose: to prepare for shifting and rebuilding the ramp, work within the current on-ramp is required to demolish the existing retaining wall and replace it with temporary barricades. This operation is part of the project’s overall simplification of the Newbury Street / Mass. Ave intersection and access to the on-ramp, while improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists crossing the intersection.
Detour: As with previous closures, a signed detour will be posted for drivers to access the Turnpike westbound by the Arlington Street / Marginal Road on-ramp in the Back Bay, via Commonwealth Avenue and Arlington Street (as shown below).
