Hotel Crane Installation: Weekend Closure of Highway On-Ramp & Newbury St Ext.
The weekend of March 11, the crane for construction on the Newbury Street parcel will be installed. This will require closing & detouring the I-90 highway onramp at Newbury Street / Mass Ave for the weekend and restricting access to the Newbury Street Extension. Through-traffic should use Mass Ave to Commonwealth Ave and Charlesgate West to access Commonwealth Ave eastbound (see map). Please note that this operation is weather dependent and may be subject to alteration or cancellation in the event of inclement weather.
Timing: Friday 3/11 from 11:00 p.m. to Monday 3/14 at 5:00 a.m.
Night Work: To minimize impacts to traffic, work will be ongoing 24/7 during the weekend. While some limited noise is expected, we will work to mitigate it as much as possible, including using white-noise backup alarms.
Local Access to Newbury Street Extension: Access to the Somerset Garage and Harvard Club parking lot will be maintained via access to Newbury Street Extension from the Commonwealth Avenue intersection. Boston Police Department details will assist with traffic flow. If you need access to the Extension, please alert a detail officer from your vehicle, and prepare for brief delays.
On-Ramp Detour: As with previous closures, a signed detour will be posted for drivers to access the Turnpike westbound by the Arlington Street / Marginal Road on-ramp in the Back Bay via Commonwealth Avenue and Arlington Street (as shown below).
